Events at Day Services Provision
Sun, 1st March 2020 - Day Services Update - March 2020
In the Animal Care group at the Quantock Centre our Service Users have been keeping our animals happy and healthy – feeding, watering and mucking them out every day. The Pony Club group are still taking our ponies for walks on site and lunging them in the fields:
In our Arts and Crafts sessions at the Blackdown Centre we’ve been getting through the last of our resources as the end of the Winter term nears. Our Service Users have been putting their heads together to plan projects for the Spring Term and sharing their best projects from this term. We’re going to work together to tidy up and clean the group room to make room for another term full of craft projects and activities:
Service Users in our Cooking From Scratch group have been cooking up a storm! This month we’ve had Veggie moussaka, Quorn chicken and Veg pasta delight, and Shepherd’s pie:
Up at the Mendip Centre our Service Users have been processing the wood from our tree and land management sessions, and planting potatoes and other ‘earlies’ ready for the summer. They’ve worked hard laying a woodchip path in our poly-tunnel. And we’ve had a good tidy up of the barn in preparation for next term:
Service Users continue to pamper those who attend their “Salon”. Our Makaton sessions are still a hit and Service Users are quickly surpassing Staff with their signing. In our last week of term some Service Users brought in games for all of us to play which everyone very much enjoyed!:
Our Walking Group have recently enjoyed walking from the Farm to Priddy Woods. This month we found some amazing dens and tried to build our own. We’ve also enjoying exploring some local nature reserves, reading about the wildlife on show and sheltering from the rain in the bird watching cabins:
Sat, 1st February 2020 - Day Services Update - February 2020
In the Animal Care group at the Quantock Centre our Service Users have been keeping our animals happy through the wet winter months, mucking them out and making sure they’re fed and watered every day. We’ve also been pampering and walking our ponies in the Pony Club sessions:
In our Arts and Crafts sessions at the Blackdown Centre we’ve been trying out mask making and some weaving. Our Glass Blowing sessions started again this month with different Service Users having a go for the first time. This session provides an excellent opportunity for Service Users to express themselves and use their creative sides:
Our budding chefs have been working hard in the Cooking from Scratch group. This month we’ve had vegetable crumble, stir fry, and fajitas. Delicious!:
The Craftshed team painted some Valentine’s love hearts with their favourite quotes to decorate the Farm for Valentine’s Day. They’ve also been working hard redecorating “The Craftshed” signs for 2020. :
The Service Users in our Creative Landscapes session have almost finished the first dry stone wall renovation beside the Blackdown Centre. The Tree and Land Management group have been making wooden stakes, hedge laying, and clearing the brash from the coppice. And our Service Users in the Veg Plot group have successfully planted our first ‘early’ vegetables of the season:
Service Users have been expressing themselves in The Hub at the Blackdown Centre using their “Salon” to pamper Staff members. We’re also trying something new in The Hub this term – our Makaton Choir! The Makaton sessions have been received very well with Service Users enjoying learning a new song each week:
Our Walking Group have recently enjoyed walking from the Farm to Priddy Woods and wandering through the evergreens. We’ve also been splashing through the Wookey Fords and also enjoyed exploring the caves at Burrington Combe!:
Sun, 1st December 2019 - Day Services Update - December 2019
The “Craftshed” group members have been helping to make signs for our Service in Ireland.
The Day Care Service Users who attend the Blackdown Centre's Creative Landscape session have been busy repairing and renovating the dry-stone wall next to the Centre. Our Group Leaders Alex and Martin recently attended a dry-stone walling course and have directed the efforts using the knowledge they have gained.
The “From Scratch” cooking group cooked up a lovely Thai green curry which they researched, bought ingredients for, and followed a recipe to prepare. All agreed that it tasted lovely!
Service Users at the Mendip Centre groups have been working hard preparing wooden stakes for hedging, hedge laying and holding tightly onto chickens. Our Staff have got stuck into strimming back the brambles.
Here are the Animal Care group from the Quantock Centre helping to feed and water our animals. “Bertie” the pony likes Chelsea football club and “Napoleon” the goat enjoys a good scratch from the Staff.
The “Walking Group" members visited the “Dove cot” in Bruton.
The Day Service helped Santa Claus and his Elves at our annual Christmas party. Service users helped prepare the food and put up decorations. A Service User sang a selection of songs with DJ “Elf” selecting the music. Much fun was had by all!
