Events at Day Services Provision
Sun, 1st December 2019 - Day Services Update - December 2019
The “Craftshed” group members have been helping to make signs for our Service in Ireland.
The Day Care Service Users who attend the Blackdown Centre's Creative Landscape session have been busy repairing and renovating the dry-stone wall next to the Centre. Our Group Leaders Alex and Martin recently attended a dry-stone walling course and have directed the efforts using the knowledge they have gained.
The “From Scratch” cooking group cooked up a lovely Thai green curry which they researched, bought ingredients for, and followed a recipe to prepare. All agreed that it tasted lovely!
Service Users at the Mendip Centre groups have been working hard preparing wooden stakes for hedging, hedge laying and holding tightly onto chickens. Our Staff have got stuck into strimming back the brambles.
Here are the Animal Care group from the Quantock Centre helping to feed and water our animals. “Bertie” the pony likes Chelsea football club and “Napoleon” the goat enjoys a good scratch from the Staff.
The “Walking Group" members visited the “Dove cot” in Bruton.
The Day Service helped Santa Claus and his Elves at our annual Christmas party. Service users helped prepare the food and put up decorations. A Service User sang a selection of songs with DJ “Elf” selecting the music. Much fun was had by all!
Fri, 1st November 2019 - Day Services Update - November 2019
Service Users at the Blackdown Centre have been getting stuck-in with activities such as hat making, crocheting and working in the “Nail bar” painting finger nails:
The Service Users in the “From Scratch” cooking group have once again produced some “banging” meals. On the menu this month has been pizza, vegetable curry and Quorn-chicken fajitas! Yummy!:
The “Craftshed” team have been producing diagrams for a pin board layout of photos. They have also undertaken a survey of the farm animals and collected bags of prepared kindling for the “Craftshed” market stall:
One of our “Farm Rovers” group members has been busy partaking in various activities such as cutting wood for the winter wood pile for our log burners, preparing a sign for our pigs and helping to cook “bush tucker” for the “Woodland craft” group:
The annual Day Service Charter Event firework evening was again a great success.
The bonfire was lit with impeccable timing and the firework display was amazing! Lots of “oooh’s” and “ahhh’s” and generous applause at the end of the display.
Our Service Users enjoyed some lovely firework food (roasted pork with apple sauce burgers or a vegetable curry) cooked up by the Staff team and kitchen helpers. Music, fizzy pop and frolics were also served up in the main room, and a popular local drag-artistS performed so well that we have booked him again for our Christmas party!:
As part of the Blackdown Centre's “Arts & Crafts” session, our Service Users have been attending regular glassblowing days at Silver tree Crystal glassblowing centre. Recent crystal glass crafts produced have been baubles for Christmas trees:
The hedge laying at the Mendip Centre has been proceeding magnificently. We are using the hazel to produce stakes for fencing and for the production of hurdles. Group members have been strimming the weeds and grass back in the vegetable plot and pathways. Some of our Service Users have been working to repair the dry-stone wall next to the Blackdown Centre, as well as producing copious amounts of kindling:
This month the Walking Group have been on walking adventures to far flung places like “Barrow Mump” and ”Sand Point” near Weston-Super-Mare:
Tue, 1st October 2019 - Day Services Update - October 2019
The Animal Care Group at the Quantock Centre have been taking the little Shetland pony “Thumper” for a walk. He has helped to keep the grass short:

A Service User from the “Arts & Crafts” Group has been designing a really great hat.:
The “Craftshed” Group have been making dream-catchers from willow they have cut on the Farm. They have also been up to our vegetable plot to cut mint leaves for tea bags. Here is our Stall and our top sales person set up at West Hay market:
A “Farm Rovers” group member has been busy roving about all over the Farm, enjoying various activities including transporting soil in our special cart, picking peppers in the vegetable plot, nail painting and creating wonderful artworks.
Our Service Users from the “From Scratch” cooking group have been busy collecting blackberries for a recipe and concocting delicious meals. The vegetable peelings go to the pigs and chickens.
The Kindling group have been busy producing copious amounts of kindling from the wooded pallets kindly donated to us from local businesses.
Some of our Service Users had a lovely trip to the beach. The weather was fine and warm, and they all enjoyed swimming in the warm sea and making sandcastles.
Our Vegetable Plot is still producing lots of veg which we use in our Cooking Groups. Here one of our Group Leaders is modelling the latest trend in sun protection. Rhubarb!
The Walking Group have enjoyed a trip up to Glastonbury Tor. Wow! What a great view!
