Events at Day Services Provision
Mon, 1st June 2020 - Day Services Update - June 2020
Due to the current circumstances we’re still only able to support our on-site Service Users at the Day Service. Here’s what they’ve been up to …
As usual Service Users have been feeding, watering and mucking out the pigs, chickens, goats and ponies in Animal Care. We’re still working on some maintenance jobs to fix fences and secure gates too. We’ve continued to chip away at the mammoth task of digging out the silt from the bottom of the pond in the chicken coop so we can re-fill it for the summer. No complaints from our hard workers though as you can see … see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil!:
Arts and Crafts
In our Arts & Crafts sessions this month we’ve created some artwork to remember lockdown life so we don’t forget this strange and historic time. We’ve made a rainbow collage of photos of all the stuff we’ve been up to, and we’ve also made a handprint canvas of all those who have helped on the Farm during lockdown. In addition to this some Service Users have been drawing and colouring their favourite bands, football teams and other interests:
Up at the Mendip Centre we’ve finished varnishing our veg plot signs and we’ve put them in around the garden.
We’ve spent a lot of time this month strimming to maintain the long grass, weeding the veg patches, mulching and protecting the trees we planted last year and turning our compost piles. And every spare minute we’ve spent keeping the barn and the trailer clean, or catching some well-earned rest in the shade!
Service Users have enjoyed walking up to the view point to admire the views from the shade of the trees:
Fri, 1st May 2020 - Day Services Update - May 2020
Due to the current circumstances we’re still only able to support our on-site Service Users at the Day Service. Here’s what they’ve been up to…
In Animal Care our Service Users have consistently fed, watered, and mucked out the pigs, chickens, goats and ponies as well as trying their hand at some maintenance jobs to fix fences and secure gates. We’ve also started the mammoth task of digging out the silt from the bottom of the pond in the chicken coop before we can re-fill it for the summer:
In our Arts & Crafts sessions this month we’ve been putting all of our recent art work up on display, we’ve painted our recycling bins to brighten up our eco efforts, and we’ve been getting creative by making up our own activities and competitions – most recently, the Bradbury House paper aeroplane championships!:
Up at the Mendip Centre we’ve been building net tents to keep the pests off of our vegetables and we’ve finished planting out all of our fruit and veg in the polytunnels. We’ve also been strimming to maintain the long grass and turning our compost piles.
The Service Users at Bendalls are still working hard with Day Service staff too. They’ve made excellent progress with the dry-stone walling behind the Blackdown Centre.
Service Users at The Old Rectory have also contributed to the Mendip workforce from home. We supplied them with pallets, a saw, a hammer, a chisel and plenty of kindling bags, and they have been able to stock up our kindling supplies for when the Craftshed shop can re-open!:
We’re very fortunate to have 250 acres of land to explore here, so we’ve been able to offer lots of walking group activities on site. Service Users have enjoyed walking up to the view point in the sunshine:
Wed, 1st April 2020 - Day Services Update - April 2020
Under strange circumstances we’re trying to maintain some consistency for our on-site Service Users. Unfortunately we’re not able to support our off-site or External Service Users at the moment.
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone again when normality resumes but in the meantime, here’s what our on-site Service Users have been up to while working with Staff and Service Users from their individual houses (one house at a time).
In Animal Care our Service Users have been keeping our animals well fed, happy and healthy, and we’re walking the ponies in the sunshine whenever we can. Service Users have also helped to replace the chicken coop fence to keep them all safe from foxes:
Service Users have been offered the option to attend Arts and Crafts sessions in the Craftshed (one house at a time). We’ve been trying out some new activities like acrylic pouring, Jackson Pollock inspired splatter art, fabric painting, and using natural resources we find on our walks to make collages:
We’ve had plenty to do up at the Mendip Centre – building raised beds, planting vegetables in the veg plot and flowers in the hanging baskets. We’ve also been strimming to maintain the long grass and turning our compost piles. As you can see it is hard work! So we’ve had plenty of breaks to sit and ponder:
The Service Users at Bendalls have also been working hard with Day Service Staff. They’ve made excellent progress with the dry stone walling behind the Blackdown Centre.
We’re very fortunate to have 250 acres of land to wander so we’ve been able to offer lots of walking group activities on site. Service Users have enjoyed walking up to the view point in the sunshine and resting in the shade on the tree trunk stools we made up there a few years ago:
